The gorgeous shapes used to make quilled jewelry are a sure attention-getter. Though they may look intricate and fragile, the shapes are actually quite simple to create. All you need are paper quilling strips and a basic tool (or toothpicks) to get started!
You can buy a quilling kit which includes all the tools and pre-cut paper strips you need to get started. The kits are a great way to get familiar with the basics of quilling before investing in your own tools.
Once you’ve gotten a feel for the basic process, you can experiment with different shapes to learn how to manipulate the paper. This will help you achieve more intricate designs that can be used on their own or glued to other objects, like greeting cards, picture frames, and boxes.
For this project, we’ll use two paper circles to make the earring exteriors. First, gather your primary colored paper strips and cut them to a length of about two inches. Glue the ends together and then glue them to the center of one of the circle outlines. Next, repeat the process to create the second earring. You’ll also need a few black/pink paper strips for the honeycomb interiors. When making the coils, remember that the curve should be facing down — this helps keep the paper looking nice and neat. If you’re unsure how to do this, just keep rolling and eventually it will become instinctive. Paper Quilling Jewelry
